Things to remember when hiring a crane.

Cranes come in all shapes and sizes with each one having been built especially for a range of limited lift scenarios. You may need a crane to fit into a narrow lane or on top of a roof ten stories up. You may need two cranes to lift an item or even one to lift items from a fixed position and another to feed items to it.

It is important to remember that industry professionals like Mulherins are best placed to advise you on your crane requirements. Common misconceptions are that I have an item weighing 50T so I only need a 50T crane to lift it into place. The size of the crane required is determined by how far the weight must be lifted from the centre of the crane. So a 50T item may require a 200T crane if it is to be placed a calculated distance from the centre of the crane.

The size of the crane is determined by a lift study which will be done by Mulherins before lifting any items.  Other factors to remember when thinking about using a crane is that they require stable ground to set up on or drive on if they are a mobile crane. You may need traffic control if you are working on a street or to clear trees in the working area.

You may need to get permission to work near powerlines. Mulherins will answer all these questions in their lift study to produce a controlled safe procedure to implement your lifting solutions.
